guided tours from amiens

Terres de Memoire proposes regular departures but the itinerary is not necessarily the same every day. Our 1 Day Battlefields Tours are adapted to the needs of our clients and on some days the circuits may vary. With several vehicles and several guides on the road every day in Northern France (Somme, Artois & Flandres) Terres de Memoire believes it's important to keep that flexibility for clients to fully enjoy their tour and for them to be able to visit any specific site, cemetery or memorial their clients wish to see. As a result, our 1 Day Tour from Amiens is often tailor-made.

John just returned from his tour:

"I wanted to let you know that the tour on 25/7 was brilliant. Sylvester, our guide, was fantastic – great empathy, knowledge, enthusiasm and an all round good guy. We met him in the street outside our hotel the next day, quite coincidentally and he greeted us with his arms outflung and a “mes amis”! Great guy. Great day! Thank you." John G.

Somme battlefields Tour Itinerary

(sample itinerary subject to be modified)

  • The tour starts at Amiens station at 9.00am. From there we will visit the 1918 battlefields, starting with Villers-Bretonneux where we will pay our respects at the imposing Australian Memorial which commemorates nearly 11.000 Australian soldiers who died in France and have no known grave. We will then visit a German cemetery on the way to Albert, where we will have a break for lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the 1916 battlefields : the impressive Lochnagar mine crater, a huge mine which was blown up on the 1st of July 1916, Pozières, and the Thiepval memorial to the Missing. The names of 72.000 missing British and South African soldiers who died in the Somme before March 1918 are commemorated on this overwhelming monument. We will finally visit the Canadian Historic Site of Beaumont-Hamel and its preserved trenches. The Newfoundland regiment suffered here 90 % casualties on the 1st of July 1916. After this extremely moving day we will return to Amiens. The tour finishes at Amiens station at 5.00-5.30pm.
